This is a delightful, elegant, large, Zushi, displaying Amida Noyra Buddha, of the Pure Land Sect, standing with Fear Dispelling Mudra
This is a beautiful, genuine Japanese imported antique. From the late 1800s, early 1900s, the Meiji Era ( 1868-1912) 明治時代
This was designed and made by hand, by a 'Busshi', a traditional Japanese Buddhist Image maker, a traditional that still exists today.
Made from Gold Gilt, Wood, and Laquer. The Buddha has fine modelling particularly to the hands and fingers typical of this period. A large Lotus leaf Manora behind his head indicates his radiant aura. On the base is the signature of the maker. On the base of the Zushi is more calligraphy, of recent origin.
With working brass fittings, including hinges and a catch/latch on the doors.
A wonderful piece for the collector, altar, or an impressive interior design statement.
All my statues are are kept under Buddhist and/or Taoist conditions in my Meditation Studio at my Retreat.
