Three boxes with glass knife rests. Knife rests have a long history. They have been used since the seventeenth century. Initially there was one large knife rest: the butler placed the knife with which he cut the meat into pieces for serving. After that, the use of smaller knife rests arose, one per table companion. The knife rest was and is used to prevent stains on the table linen. The knife should be on the knife rest between courses (if no new cutlery has been provided), during the meal the knife and fork lie on the edge of the plate.
