Two wonderful wood statues. One lot.
Statue#1: Possibly Bao Sheng Da Di (保生大帝)
Wood. Unique, weathered statue. In the style of the Tang Shan Master Carvers.
Beautiful time honed, weathered patina and facial countenance. Loss and wear commensurate with great age including loss to majority of the paints and gilt, and various cracks due to age (now stable) as seen in photos. Part of arm chair loss to left side of chair.
Statue#2: Guanyin (觀音)
Taiwan. Wood. Some gilt and paints remaining. Wonderful face. Loss and wear commensurate with great age including loose gilt, flaking, and loss to gilts and paints. Age cracks. Statue largely intact. Hands, feet, face, and statue body with no repairs detected. Loose right hand. Loose vase and stand. Statue was created by joining the base together with the statue.
