A unique piece in good condition.
This campaign chest of drawers incorporates dressing table features based on Rudd's principle of swinging and folding side mirrors and is inspired by Sheraton's design for a (ladies) travelling box.The secretary drawer would appear to have already developed during the late GeorgeII/early George III period. Ince & Mayhew's first mention of it is in their Universal System (1759-63). These drawers became a popular feature on chests and some of the finest military chests are equipped with secretary drawers to increase teir utility and save transporting a desk. The style became so popular that it was widely asapted for furnishing the masculine apartments of the home.
