Medallón - Trigrama IHS - Diámetro 55 cm. - Mármol de Istria - Segunda mitad del siglo XX
Italia, Venecia

A spectacular Istrian marble medallion, carved and crafted by hand, depicting the IHS trigram, topped by a cross and surrounded by the image of a sun. Origin: Venice, private collection.
Over time, this inscription (IHS) has been interpreted in various ways, the best known was ‘Iesus Hominum Salvator’ i.e. ‘Jesus, Savior of mankind’.
The idolatrous use of the trigram was condemned by many believers, so that Pope Martin V thought he could solve the problem by adding a small cross above letter H.
One of a kind lot, sporadically available on the market. Remarkable marble patina. A truly exclusive item.
It is easy to hang on the wall. Medium-sized, well-proportioned and not too heavy.
In excellent condition, intact.
It will be delivered in a wooden crate, after proper packaging.
Affordable, safe and tracked international shipping.
The item can also be picked up at our warehouse.
