8vo, 160 x 110 mm, contemporary vellum , woodcut printer's device on title-page and final verso, title page, 819, 93 pp, stained lightly on the lower part throughout it , heavier at beginning and end, but still without effecting the reading. This writing is considered the first numismatic work, a treatise on ancient coins and measures, in which he attempted to determine contemporary values.
First published in 1515, it is considered the best work of the great Parisian humanist. The text is followed by ‘Vocum atque locutionum quarundam subobscurarum explanatio’ by Jodocus Badius Ascensius.
In this treatise entirely devoted to Roman coins and measurements, Budé demonstrates remarkable scholarship in antiquity, and his work is full of information that is difficult to find elsewhere.
