The concept of this amazing chair designed by Michael Thonet dates back to the second half of the 19th century and was created to meet precise functional requirements. The chair became popular all over the world at the beginning of the 20th century.
This specimen dates back to the beginning of the series production and is still in excellent condition.
No. 18 model is one of the most widely used chairs in bistros all over the world. The bent element, which also enriches the central part of the backrest, adds comfort to the seat, available in several different variations, and at the same time determines its characteristic profile. The backrest and rear legs are shaped from a single piece of steam-bent Beech wood.
The Vienna straw seat is undamaged.
Excellent overall condition, with normal signs of ageing (please, see the photos). Recently restored with woodworm treatment and wood nourishing wax.
The label "La Wienner G.P." can be seen under the label, as this company produced for Thonet on commission during the 19th century.
