Stunning and rare box with lid finely carved in the round in a thousand-mask motif, on one side in a cartouche two roaring lions are engraved, on the other a large mask of the witch Hannaya stands out.

The great depth of the sculpture enhances the three-dimensionality of the box. The inside of the lid is also carved and depicts a mask. On the inside of the cover you can see the slightly discoloured joint pin between the knob and the cover.
Signed in small cartouche on one side.
In very good overall condition with minor veining and wear consistent with age.
