Ancient, Russian icon "God's Mother Joy of All Sufferers" from the 19th century approx. 1850. Hand-painted with egg tempera colour on a wooden panel with chalk background. Typical method of icon production in the 18th and 19th century in tsarist Russia. The painting is quite detailed (see photos). The depiction of the saints was rather held in darker tones and bluish colour contrasts. The saints are labelled. The inscriptions are clearly legible. The icon is in good condition with typical age-related signs of use in the form of minor scratches, dents, chips and flakes. Partial restorations are present. Two wooden laths are attached on the top and bottom ends of of the back. The icon is slightly curved. By and large a very successful icon, which is not only antique, but also quite decorative. The painting contains minimal, age-related crackle.
Everything can perfectly be seen in the photos. The photos are part of the description.
