During World War II, MAS and MS motorboats carried out many actions. Among them, the most successful were: torpedoing of British cruiser Capetown on 8 April 1941 by MAS 213 commanded by ensign Valenza; sinking of Soviet submarine Equoka in the Black Sea on 19 June 1942; damage to Russian cruiser Molotov by MAS 568 and 573 on 3 August 1942; sinking of the modern British cruiser Manchester by MS 16 and 22 on 12 August 1942, during the famous Operation Pedestal in the central Mediterranean, during which the many participating MAS also sank the steamers Glenorchy, Santa Elisa, Rochester Castle, Almeria Likes and Wairangi; sinking of British destroyer Lightning off the Algerian coast on 12 March 1943.
