Beautiful 18th or 19th century oak carvings of the Generality Lion of the navy ship the "7 Provinces".
In the history of the Dutch Navy, there have been several ships that have carried the name "7 Provinces" and are therefore named after the informal confederation of the 16th century, in the rebellion against Philip II of Spain. Although ships of this name have also been launched in modern years (2002, 1953 and 1910), they are mainly line ships from the 17th and 18th centuries. It is unclear whether this carving actually comes from a ship, for example the line ship of the Admiralty of the Noorderkwartier, launched in 1782. The plaque looks to be from a later date.
