Medal for the “Corpo delle Guardie di P.S.” Established by General Giovanni D’Antoni, Chief of Police, in 1949.
Made by Lorioli of Milan, it is among the historical memorabilia of the Italian national police corps (also shown on the official website www.poliziadistato.it).
Dimensions: diameter 10 cm. The obverse features a tome with the inscription "LEX" and a forearm with a strong hand that firmly wields a Roman gladius. The reverse, features badge of the corps: an eagle with a turreted crown in its head, diverging wings, and a shield bearing the monogram "RI" (Italian Republic) on its chest; the eagle rests firmly on a laurel sceptre, surrounded by the name of the institute.
The medal also came with a smaller badge to leave room for any engravings, and could be used as a key chain. A postcard was also published in the same year to celebrate the newly minted medal.
