14.5 x 10.5 cm.
Rare original edition of this famous poetic collection, which presents a first edition of many poems by Battista Guarini and Torquato Tasso.
In Padua in the early 1560s, on the initiative of a group of young literature students and above all of Scipione Gonzaga, to whom a short story in this work was dedicated,
the Accademia degli Eterei began to meet, officially inaugurated by an oration by Stefano Santini, on January 1, 1564.
Tasso also took part in the bi-weekly sessions, dedicated to the discussion and recitation of poetic texts, recalled to Padua by Gonzaga.
It was Tasso who pronounced, in November 1564, the funeral oration for Santini, with tones of genuine friendship in mourning the premature death of his young friend. Many lyrical works merged into the collection entitled
"Rime De Gl' Academici Eterei", published in Venice at the end of 1566.
A second edition, this work, was published in Ferrara in 1588, with the addition of many poems by Tasso and Guarini in the first edition.
Beautiful coeval parchment binding with title handwritten on the spine.
Interiors with some stains and even browning, which do not prevent the normal consultation of the text.
Numerous, interesting annotations and coeval signatures, probably written by the same hand.
Old restoration on the title page where the brand is.
A beautiful engraving with Vittorio Baldini Stampator Ducale on the colophon.
Original endpapers included.
Book in good overall condition.
