Wiskemann is the most exclusive Belgian manufacturer of silver-plated items. Otto-Leonard Wiskemann descended from a noble German family of goldsmiths and jewellers. His career started with an internship at Christofle. After this internship he was able to improve Christofle's process even further, and he settled in Brussels in 1872. In that period, Wiskemann manufactured the highest quality silver-plated white metal that could be found worldwide. All pieces were made by hand in the workshops in Brussels (Belgium) and Zurich (Switzerland). (You can find an excerpt from the 1908 catalogue among the photos depicting the studios.
Wiskemann received major international recognition including the 'Medaille d'argent' in 1885 at the international competition in Antwerp, the 'Diplôme d'honneur in Brussels (1897), the 'Grand Prix' in his category twice, in Liège in 1905 and in Milan in 1906 respectively. In the culinary world and at the Culinary Competition, Wiskemann already reached the top of the world with gold medals and honorary diplomas in 1888, 1889, 1899, 1900, 1904 and 1905. The extensive list up to 1908 can be found between the photos.
The company was later continued by Otto and Albin Wiskemann, and by Bruno Wiskemann after that. The Wolfers family (known from Philippe Wolfers and the Wolfers Frères - purveyor to the Belgian royal family) bought a majority of the company during that period. Later, the companies of the Delheid family were also added to this group.
This is a piece of Belgian history of excellent quality: it can be compared with Christofle, Robbe & Berking, Ercuis, Puiforcat, Wilkens, etc.
