Antoon Kruysen was born in Boxtel in 1898 as the eldest child of the painter Jan Kruysen and Barbara van Dijk. Antoon Kruysen (1898-1977) painted many village scenes, portraits and rural scenes in the Netherlands (primarily in South-East Brabant). Later, he settled in Chatres (France) where he became known for his colourful and highly expressionistic works. Some of his works seem to be direct references to the works of Van Gogh. Much of his work can also be found in Brabant, both in museums, including the Museum Kruysenhuis in Oirschot, and in private possession.
