Work-of-Art Soup Tureen with Lemon knob Lid and green branch handles, produced by Herend - Hungary in the most desired pattern “Rothschild” (Bird Collection), in perfect condition. It is hand painted in the well known “Rothschild” pattern with birds perched among branches and scattered butterflies, insects & bugs, gilt banding. Abundance of butterflies can be spotted scattered on the entire tureen and has three different couples of birds, two on both faces, one on the lid. Various roses and buds in relief applied around green branches with embossed leaves. Spectacular lid with the knob in the shape of half lemon, embossed lemon peel and “juicy” slice of lemon aside, hand painted in brilliant yellow color. This pattern was first created in 1850 for the Rothschild family of Europe and is considered to be the epitome of hand painting on porcelain. Twelve different motifs portray a 19th century tale about Baroness Rothschild who lost her pearl necklace in the garden of her Vienna residence. Several days later it was found by her gardener, who saw birds playing with it in a tree. Both, tureen and lid are in pristine condition, Like New Never Used, marked on the underside of the bowl with Herend blue shield mark and numbered, First Choice, NO chips, NO cracks, NO repairs, please see the pictures as they are part of description.
