Esther Hewlett Copley (1786–1851) was a prolific Baptist writer of children’s fiction and cooking. Born in London to a Huguenot French silk producer. In 1837 he became minister of the Baptist Church.
She remained in Eythorne until her death in 1851. She wrote prolifically after 1815, mainly children's and cooking works: including the Complete Guide to The Cook - 1827. Cottage Comforts - 1825. Cottage Cookery - 1849. The Housekeeper's Guide - 1834 and perhaps her most significant work, A History of Slavery and its Abolition - 1836.
