Frans Coenen (Jr.) (Amsterdam, 24 April 1866 - 23 June 1936) was a Dutch naturalist writer, essayist, literary critic and museum curator.
The naturalist novels and novellas which he published between 1892 and 1905 bear witness to a gloomy mind whose protagonist have feelings of boredom and longing for death. Titles like ‘Verveling’, ‘Een zwakke’, ‘Bleeke levens’ and ‘In duisternis’ speak volumes in this regard.
Ferdinand Hart Nibbrig (Amsterdam, 5 April 1866 - Laren, 12 October 1915) was a Dutch painter and theosophist. He was one of the artists who introduced Luminism to the Netherlands.
In his early years as a painter, Hart Nibbrig worked mainly in the impressionist style of the Amsterdam School, but after a year in Paris (1890), under the influence of Vincent van Gogh and Georges Seurat, he turned to pointillism. He was also one of the painters who introduced Luminism to the Netherlands. His works are characterised by lots of light and bright colours. He lived in Laren in the Gooi region, but also worked in other places in the Netherlands, particularly on the coast, such as Vlieland and Zoutelande in Zeeland. He also travelled to North Africa and Germany.
