The “new Life” of Cervantes is based on that of Vincente de los Rios, first published
in Spanish in the Academy edition of 1780, and first appearing in an English
abridgement in this edition.
All the Illustrations signed and with imprint “Publish’d Jany. 1801 for W. Miller, Old Bond
Street.” The unattributed illustrations are re-workings of plates from the Academy edition of
1780. The map in vol. I shows Don Quixote’s travels and the (supposed) sites of his
adventures, and is "corrected, and engraved" from a map by Joseph de Hermosilla
made for the Spanish Academy.
