Piet van der Hem is a Dutch painter, designer and draughtsman. He belongs to the top artists of Dutch art of the first half of the twentieth century, like his colleagues Leo Gestel and Jan Sluijters. He made many paintings of the eventful city life in Rome, Paris, Moscow and Amsterdam, but also painted nature.
In addition to paintings, he also produced political drawings for De Nieuwe Amsterdammer and De Haagsche Courant from 1914 onwards. The critical, sharp and witty political drawings are nowadays sought-after collectibles.
This ink drawing has the message 'Gevraagd: Één zwaluw die Zomer maakt’ shows an understanding of the quick-witted and humorous message of the artist.
The drawing is in good condition and is neatly framed with mat in a wooden frame, as you can see in the photos. The overall photo looks a bit yellow because of the lighting.
