Signed at the bottom left, characteristic work by Louis Albert Roessingh.
The work has craquelure in the cloudscape and is apparently reinforced on the back, apparently for reinforcement. This extra canvas is loosening a bit at the top.
The painting is nevertheless in an acceptable condition and can thus be hung immediately.
According to the sticker on the back, it was once sold/framed by Scheepers in Avers (Antwerp).
The bronze-coloured frame has signs of wear.
Roessingh was born in Assen on 10th December 1873 and died in Antwerp on 18th January 1951.
Was the son of the president of the district court in Assen and left for Antwerp after his school to study at the Academie der Schoone Kunsten.
Had a summer house in the Drenthe Elp and painted a lot there and lived opposite his colleague Reinhart Dozy.
In his studio in Antwerp he finished sketches of nature in Drenthe in oil paintings.
In 1948 he became an honorary citizen of Westerbork in Drente. Louis Albert Roessingh died in Antwerp, but he was buried in Westerbork.
Part of his work is included in museums and private collections.
The painting will be packed carefully and - at the buyer’s expense and risk - sent by registered post by PostNL.
