Beautiful piece of iron-stony meteorite, mesosiderite type, with a nice size and shape.
We can observe its surface with different oxyphos.
Mesosiderites are iron-stony meteorites formed by the impact normally of a body of metallic nature against a rocky body, so that, after the impact, the materials mix. Some studies suggest that the impact occurred with asteroid Vesta, from which meteorites called ‘HED’ (Howardite, Eucrite, Diogenite) come.
It was discovered in Chile in 1861. Currently there are identified 5 craters. It was discovered by some miners, who at first thought they had found silver.
A cow skeleton was found next to the main crater, so it was mistakenly thought that this meteorite had killed a cow, but it was not the case. In fact, the name comes from the valley where it was found, the Vaca Muerta Valley (Spanish for dead cow).
At Expometeoritos, we take care of dissemination, talks, workshops, analyses, classification and exhibitions of meteorites.
