On December 15, 1978 at 18:50 a bright fireball, traveling NE. to SW. and visible over a radius of at least 200 km, exploded over north-central Mexico and scattered meteorites over an elliptical area more than 10 km in length. It fell in About 10 km N. of the village of Nuevo Mercurio, Zacatecas, Mexico. The Nuevo Mercurio meteorite is classified as an H5 chondrite.
Weight is 21 grams.
