This is yet another "Jewel in the Crown" and obtained from the Chateau at Brantôme.
I must confess, even for me it is rare to have the privilege of getting such a superb and magnificent bed linen and I can assure you it took some persuasion for the lady owner to pass it on to me. She has never used the linen herself, nor has her mother.
What is unusual is the width, which is 2m40 which for that time of the Century was rare and was obviously especially commissioned.
It is a elegant and almost majestic bed linen with just the centre panel which almost looks like the family crest.
The design, irises and two very large initials J.R. measuring 24cmx40cm
( the initials are 15cm long!) have been superbly drawn and executed.
They stand for "Jacqueline Rosalee " who was a sister of her maternal Grandmother .There is no further embroidery and it would have spoiled the centre as it says it all. The borders have a very simple open thread work.
Words fail me to describe even further this beautiful piece of artistry.
We have taken many photos, please check for yourselves.
