France

These are 12 unused and thus new METIS serviettes
For those who are not familiar with this term Metis linen is the "work horse" of French bed and table linen. It is a heavy duty fabric designed to be washed repeatedly and stand up to the rough washing techniques of long ago.
The serviettes came from the Chateau at Brantôme and were still in its original cellophane packaging and never used. They are, is the say in France,
"encore dans son jus" still in its orignal colour ,form and shape). We have washed them a few times ,and they are still slightly off white as this was the original colour. The fabric is made of 65% linen and 35% Cotton .They will turn white after several washes. The design in the classic check board which was so popular in the 20's; To get a full set of serviettes these days is rare as most of the 12 or 18 or even 24 serviettes did not make it.
