This is a exceptional set of table linen in pure damask linen with 9 matching napkins ,measuring 72X82CM.
We deliberately have not dressed and decked the table on this occasion with dinner ware as it does not need anything and would only take away from it's beauty and sheer elegance.
The provenance is Chateau Brantôme, which is part of North Dordogne.
The table linen is virtually new and very little used.
We have taken many photos for you to see and enjoy the beautiful damask design. It is not easy to photograph damask as it very much depends on climatic conditions outside and sun is the worst enemy. This is why you see photos which are a little "white - blue" and also more "creamy". Both give a fairly precise impression. We often have to close the curtains to create ideal lighting.
The design is full of flora and particularly large open irises, large leaves and smaller flora. The initials G.P. are very elegantly hand embroidered and there are two sets on both top and bottom of the table linen. The centre has a oval wreath of flat leaves, flowers, wheat sheaves and clematis and thus ideal to add your flower arrangement. The top of the linen is dotted with small "sprays" of flowers To get a good idea of the design, may we revert you to look at the serviettes as these were taken in a darker area without sun. The borders of the table linen is covered in a array of flora.
We were fortunate to get almost a full set of very large napkins and this is the proof that the set was very little used otherwise there would have been only a few left. The large dimensions are also a proof as these sizes were only produced in the early 1900's as fabric was fairly cheap to produce. And of course gradually the dimensions became much smaller.
A perfect set to bid on.
