This is a beautiful "Appliqué" table linen.
Again it was part of 3 trousseaux we have been able to obtain from the Chateau at Brantôme in France (North Dordogne) .None of the children were interested in their Ancestors delicious and beautiful Antique linen. The lady owner of the Chateau has moved out of the Chateau and into a magnificent lodge on the Estate and has kept on some staff for the extended gardens and her own personal use. The chateau itself is kept in pristine condition. The various collections of linen became in a way surplus to requirements and the lady has only kept the bare minimum for her self.
Returning to the table linen. It dates to approx. 1935. There is no mention in the inventory ledger ,but we have worked it out together that it must have been around then. It was made in the large sewing room and has obviously been a painstaking and long lasting piece of artistry.
The cutting out of the pieces of fabric with different shades itself must have been a laborious exercise. The design of the table linen has been crochet together first prior to starting on the "flower posy's". I have studied the back in some details and it is virtually impossible to detect stitches.
It has become a "beautiful garden" table linen full of flora and ideal for outdoors brunches and luncheons.
It came without serviettes, but we still had some "finger napkins" in stock and they compliment the table linen perfectly with picking up the flowers from the linen, such as cornflowers etc. they measure 23X31CM.
It is in excellent condition and has never been used by the ladies mother and herself.
A superb stylised table linen to bid on.
