A interesting collection of napkin pochettes ( envelopes) .
They are mainly from towards the end of the 19th Century early 20th C.
There are two lots in this auction and both these napkin holders came from the chateau at Brantôme. They have been in the armoire for decennia as the Chateau has not been lived in for a very long time when they used to have large dinner parties and each family member would have their own private
They are all more or less with the famous Richelieu design - cut out work and all embroidered by hand.
Apart from using them what they were meant for they now have a multitude of uses. Ideal thus for putting in your jewels, private possessions, silver cutlery etc.
