This beautiful bed linen arrived from the Chateau near Brantôme, Dordogne.
Although it was in perfect condition after all the years having been abandoned and lying in the armoire waiting to be loved again it needed a slight "restauration" by tying in the open cutwork pieces as some of them had loosened .
It has the "Air" of "Richelieu" and has been done in he manner of, but it is in fact "cut work" and done to perfection. And what is so good about it that it is 2m20 wide which for the early 20's was already exceptionnel, taking into account that the French were still sleeping in 90cm wide beds or maximum 1m10.
It is a beautiful white crisp cotton.
The initials G.F. are large and generous and exceptionnel embroidered.
The "orchestration" of the very sumptuous and generous grapes lying on the vine leaf is truly magnificent and beautifully embroidered
And it would not surprise me if it was a gift to newly weds and the owners being part of a wine Estate.
We have photographed it also with some black felt underneath the open cutwork to get the full appreciation of the bed linen.
