Christiaan Hendrik Beekman (1887-1964), also called Chris Beekman, is known for his socialistically committed and abstract art according to the principles of De Stijl. In his early years, however, his works are quite classic and naturalistic.
Chris Beekman was supported by Henk Bremmer, Helene Kröller-Muller's art adviser. Beekman received a monthly donation of money and in return gave works of art. The early works of Beekman has largely been housed by Bremmer in the Kröller-Muller museum in Otterlo. This drawing is one of the few early works still on the market.
