Het liefdesbootje

Dolf Zwerver (1932 - 2010)

Zwerver moved with his parents from Friesland to Utrecht just before the Second World War. He worked as an advertising painter and then had jobs as sailor, carpenter, warehouse clerk and window cleaner. From the late 1950s onwards, the self-taught artist focused on a career as a painter. In 1965 he was 'discovered' in a competition for Sunday painters of the magazine Eva and in a few years he developed into a fine painter of high level.
His oeuvre is characterised by dreamy, contemplative paintings. Initially he was classified as naive art. In his work his childhood in Oranjewoud, a world of tranquil gardens, mazes, and forests, is a recurring backdrop.

His work can be seen, a.o., in the Centraal Museum in Utrecht and in the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam. Zwerver also designed covers for the Salamander pockets.
