We are delighted to present this wonderful copy of Newton’s Opticks, the last edition to be revised by Newton and published posthumously, containing 12 folding engraved plates at rear, presented in contemporary boards.
Opticks is widely considered one of the great works of science in history, and - unlike Newton’s Principia - was originally published in English. This 4th edition, “Printed from the third edition as it was corrected by the author's own hand, and left before his death with the bookseller", was published three years after Newton’s death, but is the last to have been revised by him. It includes the famous 31st Query, which stimulated a great deal of speculation and development on theories of chemical affinity.
Overall, this book presents a most pleasing appearance as well as being a fascinating artefact in the history of science.
