Marc Chagall – ‘Printemps’ – 1938
This lithograph by the Russian-French visual artist Marc Chagall (1887-1985) is from the third episode of the legendary French magazine 'Verve. Revue artistique et littéraire', of which 26 episodes appeared between 1937 and 1960. The first two numbers were released in 1937, this third episode appeared in March 1938. Each episode featured some original artworks, such as this lithograph, which was part of a group of 4 depicting the four seasons. The other lithographs in this series were by Joan Miró, Abraham Rattner and Paul Klee. The circulation of these first episodes is unknown (to me).
Dimensions: 26.4 x 35.3 cm. The lithograph is not signed in the plate, like the other 3, but the lithograph of a drawing by Chagall on the back is.
Condition: beautiful, without creases, minimal traces of cutting at the edges.
