Description
Jonathan Prince (1952) - Transcendence
Acier au bois brut - Non signé(e) - 2019

Work by American artist Jonathan Prince. Created at his studio in the Berkshires, USA.

"The North American Bison / Buffalo has been a source of spiritual inspiration for Native American plains tribes for hundreds of years
and has for me represented the spirit of freedom that I have always been attracted to.
In my work “Transcendence” I wanted to explore the notion that this powerful creature could in essence live again in a work of art. Many of my works explore the notion of duality - the pull between perfection and chaos in our lives and this piece continues that exploration.
The skin is randomized into folds and a frame tries to pull the texture of that structure into a perfected geometric form to no avail - suggesting to the viewer
that the beauty of this work is in it’s chaos - not in the perfection - a great metaphor for life."
