It is hereby expressly emphasised that this lot consists of 28 individual lithographs and not 'books'.
The journal "Proceedings of the Zoological Society of London" was first published in 1830 and continued under this name until 1923.
In this work, specialist articles from the field of zoology were regularly published with a large number of magnificently coloured lithographs.
From the vintages 1881. 1882 and 1884 are offered:
1) 1o Lithos Konchylien
2) 12 Lithos Schmetterlinge
3) 3 Lithos Gliederfüßler (Spinnen/Käfer)
4) 2 Lithos Reptilien (Natter/Eidechse)
5) 1 Litho ‚Goldsteiß-Rüsselhündchen‘
Artist: G. B. Sowerby / A. H. Searle / E. Wilson / W. Purkiss / J.Smit
Engravers: M & N Hanhart / Mintern Bros.
The lithographs in octavo format 22 x 15cm were printed on slightly yellowish strong paper; some of the photos appear somewhat lighter.
They are in uncut and excellent condition for their age. Since they were detached from the journal, the remains of the binding are still present on the affected leaf edges of all lithographs (see 2nd photo).
The illustrations are slightly zoomed in to give a better impression of the details and colours. Comparison between the enlarged image and the original can be seen in the first two photos.
