History: The NS locomotive series 1200 originated from a design by Baldwin and Westinghouse (USA). The locomotives were built by Werkspoor in Amsterdam with parts supplied from America. In 1949, 25 locomotives were ordered. The delivery of the locomotives began in 1952 and the last one was delivered in 1953. The 1201 to the 1214 were delivered in the turquoise livery and the 1215 to the 1225 in reddish brown. Since 1954, the locomotives have been repainted in Berlin blue and from the 1970s in the new yellow/grey livery. After undergoing a major overhaul over the years, the last 1200 were taken out of service by the NS in 1998. The company ACTS then took over five locomotives.
The Märklin model in question shows the Berlin blue version of locomotive 1202 of the Series 1200. This model with item number 3161 was made in two different versions.
