Salvá, 3603, who describes it as a magnificent volume, says: ‘The edition is beautiful and each biography comes with a beautiful portrait engraved in copper by Giffart, and a praise in verse at last. I suppose it was paid by Carlos José de Ligne, married to a descendant of the house of Sousa, and there is no doubt few copies were printed and they were distributed privately’; Inocêncio, VI, p. 114.
Illustrated history of the House of Sousa, one of the main noble families of Portugal, whose origin dates back to the times of the Visigoth kings.
It is a rare work, rarely for sale.
