OLD BRONZE KHMER, CAMBODIA LIME CONTAINER (FOR BETELNUT CHEWING)

This is a Old Bronze Khmer Lime Container with a nice patine. These containers were used in Cambodia to store the lime added when chewing betel nuts. Betel and spices are added together with the lime to produce a mildly intoxicating combination which was chewed by the local people. A residue of slaked lime remains inside the container. This container is made of high quality heavy bronze metal using the lost wax method. This particular shape and design is unique to the Khmer, Cambodia.
