Kaiser Idell Desk Lamp - model 6631 Luxus President. Relatively rare model in perfect condition. Materials: Black round iron base, steel rod and black round lampshade with embossed letters; KAISER IDELL ORIGINAL. Specs: Height: 47 cm Lampshade: ∅ 29 cm Base: ∅ 19 cm Electricity: 1 bulb E27 (not included) Period: 1930s – Bauhaus. Designer: Christian Dell in 1936. Manufacturer: Gebr. Kaiser & Co. Leuchten KG, Lichttechnische Spezialfabrik (Light technical special factory), Neheim-Hüsten, Germany. Christian Dell was born in 1893 in Germany in a little town Offenbach am Main situated close to Frankfurt. After completing his studies and working as a silversmith in Dresden he went to the “Großherzoglich-Sächsische Kunstgewerbeschule in Weimar. Now commenly known as the Saxon college of arts and crafts where he met the Belgian architects Henry van de Velde and Victor Horta. Later considered as one of the main founders of Art Nouveau. In 1926 he moved to Frankfurt where he became director of the art school's metal workshop, as well as "master of forms". It is here that Christian starts to design more lamps instead of forging silver. His breakthrough came when he started to design lamps for the lamp factory Gebr. Kaiser & Co in Neheim Hüsten. In 1936 the table lamp model 6631 Luxus appeared for the first time and quickly became the undisputed top model of the KAISER idell™-series. The term “idell” is a reference to the word "Idea" and his lastname "Dell". The Kaiser Idell brand and production of lamps are now owned by the Danish design company Fritz Hansen. In 1948, After World War II, Christian Dell opened a jeweller´s shop in Wiesbaden where he mainly manufactured silver goods until 1955. He died in Wiesbaden in 1974.
