Apple - Sealed iPod nano 2nd Gen (PRODUCT) RED Special Edition 2006 - The first Apple RED iPod

This is an auction of a very special piece of the history of Apple: a sealed unit of the very first red Apple device launched in collaboration with (RED), a global fund with programs for women and children affected by HIV/AIDS in Africa. Since 2006, Apple and (RED) have launched some special editions of red iPods, red iPhones, red Apple Watches and red accessories. The unit offered in this auction is from the very first Apple (RED) product launched: the second generation of the iPod nano, called (PRODUCT) RED Special Edition, from 2006. This unit is still sealed in its genuine and never opened box.

One month later, in October 2006, Steve Jobs and the founders of the Global Fund RED (Bono, the lead vocalist and primary lyricist of the famous rock band U2, and Bobby Shriver, an American activist, attorney, politician and journalist) announced their collaboration with Apple launching the iPod nano (PRODUCT) RED Special Edition. For each unit sold of this iPod, Apple contributed with $10 to the Global Fund to help fight HIV/AIDS in Africa. The sealed unit of this auction was sold only two months later, in December 2006, according to its serial number YM646G9YWL2.

As a curious detail, in the last picture of this listing you can view Bono and Bobby Shriver being interviewed by Jane Skinner of the FOX Larry King Live TV program in New York October 13, 2006. If you look to the right side of the picture, you can view a unit of the 2nd Gen iPod nano (PRODUCT) Red Special Edition, a similar item to the offered in this auction!

When this special iPod model was launched, Steve Jobs said: "Now customers can buy the best music player in the world and do something to help the world at the same time.", and "We're honored to work with Bono, (RED) and this team to contribute to an incredibly important initiative and help change the way people think about AIDS in Africa."

The iPod nano (PRODUCT) RED Special Edition came in a stylish red aluminum enclosure, giving this music player a very thin and light design, with a weight of only 40 grams and reduced dimensions of 89x40x6.5 millimeters. 1,000 songs in your pocket, with 4 GB of memory, 24 hours of battery life and the innovative Apple Click Wheel controller.

Now, 18 years later from the release of the iPod nano 2G (PRODUCT) RED Special Edition, you have the chance of bidding for this completely new unit, still in its sealed and never opened box. It is a vintage electronics collectible, very hard to find. Good luck in the auction!

IMPORTANT NOTE:

The Apple iPods of this era were packed in methacrylate cases, and sealed with transparent seals on the top and bottom faces of the case, as you can see in the pictures of this unit. The top seal of these cases had a grey arrow that you had to pull to open the iPod when you bought it. Sometimes, this grey arrow was applied by the Apple factory slightly out of the case dimensions. This unit of iPod nano is one of these cases, Apple put the grey arrow a little out of the case, so with the years the arrow has been slightly lifted in that corner due to be stored in a box, but the seal has never pulled and opened. If you examine the pictures of the top face of the case with detail, you can check that the seal has never been opened, confirming that this iPod nano (PRODUCT) RED Special Edition from 2006 is completely new and sealed.
