Design details Obverse: In the center is a portrait of Thomas Jefferson, the third president of the United States, and on the right is the red Treasury seal with the words "THIS NOTE IS LEGAL TENDER FOR ALL DEBTS, PUBLIC AND PRIVATE" printed on the banknote. Reverse (not shown): Printed with Jefferson's former residence, Monticello, his Virginia estate and one of the symbols of American culture.
