Ancient Chinese, Tang Dynasty Pottery Figure of Female Attendant - with Thermoluminescence Test! Ca. AD 618-907 This charming pottery figure represents a female attendant, standing upright on a flat rectangular base. She wears a long robe that falls to the ground, with traces of green and pink pigment still visible on the skirt and blouse. Her hair is pulled up, and her facial features are softly modelled, with narrow eyes and a slight smile. She holds a small spherical vessel in her right hand, while the left is raised to her chest in a respectful gesture.This piece has been precisely dated using a Thermo Luminescence analysis carried out by Ralf Kotalla. The report will accompany the lot. These Tang Dynasty figures are examples of tomb furnishings made to accompany the dead into the afterlife. They were meant to provide comfort, status, and protection, reflecting daily life and court culture. Common forms included dancers, musicians, attendants, animals, and foreign grooms, each playing a role in recreating the world the deceased knew. A similar example can be found in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Object Number: 1997.442.7.2.
