The subject of the auction is a historic figurine of a shepherd from a Neapolitan nativity scene. The tradition of Neapolitan Christmas nativity scenes and figurines dates back to the 18th century. The figurine presented here comes from this region of Italy and was probably made in the 1950s in a workshop specialising in the creation of such items. The figurine is made of terracotta (head, hands, legs) and is hand-painted. The body is made of tow wrapped around wire, and the costume is handmade with great care and attention to detail.
