If your auto bid limit is more than the reserve price, we’ll place a bid on your behalf that meets the reserve price.
This is because the reserve price is the minimum price the object can sell for. So you’ll need to meet the reserve price to bring the object home.
From there, if someone outbids you, we’ll bid for you to put you back on top (always in the smallest possible increments) until we reach your limit.
If your auto bid limit is less than the reserve price, we’ll take you straight to your auto bid limit. This means we’ll place a bid on your behalf of the maximum amount you set for your auto bid.
This is because we want to get you as close as possible to reaching the reserve price, without exceeding the limit you’ve set. You can then decide if you’d like to place another bid to give you the chance to meet the reserve price and bring the object home.
No matter what, we’ll never go above the limit you’ve set on your auto bid.
