Payments & Fees
What is the difference between a receipt and an invoice?

How do I know if I, as a seller, have to pay VAT on the sale of my lot?
If you are a professional seller, you will need to determine the VAT treatment of your sales yourself. Unfortunately, VAT rules are too complex for Catawiki to determine the VAT treatment of every sale. If you need help in determining the VAT treatment of your sales, please consult a tax adviser or an accountant.

Why do I, as a seller, no longer have to indicate whether my item is used or new?
Until July 2018, Catawiki would ask you, as a seller, to indicate whether your item was used or new, so we could produce an invoice with the correct VAT treatment of the sale of your lot. Because Catawiki no longer produces an invoice for the sale of your lot for auctions closing from 1st July 2018 onwards, it is no longer necessary to provide us with this information.

As a seller, will I receive a receipt for each lot I sell?
Catawiki will send a receipt directly to the buyer. These receipts are made per lot, so you will be able to link your received payments to your sold lots on Catawiki. You can find the information about your sold lots in your Catawiki account.

Will VAT be stated on the receipt?
No, the receipt includes the winning bid price and the shipping costs. The bid price is inclusive of VAT and similar indirect taxes charged by the seller.

Is it possible to receive an invoice without VAT for the Catawiki commission?
Yes, if you are (i) an EU professional seller, or (ii) a private or professional seller based outside the EU. If you are an EU professional seller based outside the Netherlands, 'reverse charge' will be applicable. In that case, you will receive a commission invoice of the 12.5% seller commission without VAT whereby the 'reverse charge' will be explicitly stated on the invoice. If you are a private or professional seller based outside the EU, you will receive a commission invoice of the 12.5% seller commission without VAT.

If you are an EU private seller, you will receive an invoice including VAT.
