Imposing and Heavy Buffalo or Elephant Bell named “Chu”, from Burma (Myanmar), region of Bagan. The bell has a wonderful patina of age.
There is a metal ball inside of the bell which produces the sound.
It is decorated with a crown of stylised motifs, including flowers and foliage, and on the side, there is the name of the caster, some age-related wear.
Cire perdue (lost wax) technique, each bell is unique.
Weight: 844 grams, 13 cm high and 10 cm of diameter. 19 cm high including the stand.
Very early 20th century or earlier.
Sold with a custom-made stand in steel.
CAUTION: the pictures were taken with artificial lighting, the bell is naturally darker.
Fair condition for an everyday object of this period, but it bears traces of age and wear (have a look at the pictures).
I have been travelling for more than 30 years in southeast Asia and for more than 25 years in Burma, where I have made many contacts during my visits, I was able to collect many objects, including magnificent bells, this one comes from my personal collection.
