This beautiful ammonite with the shell in smooth, thin bands is a Jurassic Cleoniceras of Madagascar that preserves the original mother-of-pearl iridescent shell.
This is a consequence of the light passing through the various layers of aragonite and conchiolin deposited by the ammonite while it was alive.
The lack of acidity in the depositional environment allowed them to be preserved as you see here.
Please notice the play of colour when the viewer's appearance changes. Colours are original!
The Ammonite has not undergone any gluing work, the fracture lines on the shell are internal and do not affect the integrity of the fossil.
High scientific and aesthetic value.
Excellent in any collection, for study or exhibition.
100% original fossil.
