Nostalgia in Play
This series brings together iconic toys, everyday objects, and beloved comic characters in unexpected and playful compositions. Retro toys—ranging from tin robots to gumball machines—are removed from their original context and reimagined within new narrative settings. By interacting with familiar pop culture figures, each piece gains an additional emotional and storytelling dimension.
The works explore themes of childhood memory, consumer culture, and media imagery. Through the juxtaposition of mechanical objects, whimsical characters, and seemingly mundane items, small visual stories emerge—balancing technology and imagination, nostalgia and irony.
Stylistically, the illustrations combine a warm, slightly aged color palette with clean outlines and a subtle vintage aesthetic reminiscent of classic children’s book imagery. Carefully staged compositions invite viewers to discover details and form their own associations.
The series can be understood as a playful homage to past toy worlds—reimagined within the tension between analog nostalgia and imaginative contemporary storytelling.
Emma Wildfang is a young Pop-Art street artist. Her artworks are scattered in collections all over the world. She manages to create a very special vintage style. After attending the master class, the artist has been self-taught since 2002. Her constant search for new techniques and means of expression made it almost imperative for her to now also deal with spatial structures as a sculptor. Due to the restlessness and instability of her creative process she lives up to the name Wildfang. However, in all of her works, Wildfang does not seek the perfect, symmetrically idealised work, but instead finds beauty in the fragmented, in the detail, and in the enigmatic. Her way of working is to find perfection in the imperfect.
The artwork comes directly from the studio of the artist.
