Impero partico. Arsace XLI / Vologase III (105-148 d.C.). Drachm Ecbatana (Senza prezzo di riserva)
Parthian Empire – Vologases III (105–147 AD)
Silver Drachm
Minted in Ecbatana
Weight: 3.67 g
Authentic Parthian silver drachm issued under King Vologases III during the 2nd century AD.
Vologases III ruled during a period of internal power struggles and ongoing rivalry with Rome. Coins from his reign represent an important phase of Parthian history, when the empire controlled vast territories across Iran and Mesopotamia.
This example was struck in Ecbatana, one of the principal royal mints of the Parthian Empire (modern-day Iran), known for producing high-quality silver coinage.
What makes this coin especially attractive is its preservation. For a Parthian drachm of this period, the condition is notably strong. The royal portrait is clearly visible, with sharp facial features and crown details. The reverse archer type is well-defined, and much of the legend remains readable. Coins of Vologases III are often encountered worn or weakly struck, making this well-preserved example particularly desirable.
Obverse: Diademed bust of Vologases III facing left.
Reverse: Archer seated right, holding bow — the classic Parthian royal design.
A beautifully preserved silver coin from one of Rome’s great eastern rivals
