Published in Paris in 1940 for the bibliophile society Les Bibliophiles du Palais, this refined edition combines Brillat-Savarin’s famous reflections on gastronomy with Dufy’s lively and elegant graphic interpretation. The etchings depict scenes inspired by culinary culture and rural French life—poultry yards, countryside landscapes, musicians, hunting scenes, markets, and gastronomic still-lifes—executed in Dufy’s characteristic fluid and expressive line. The volume was prepared under the direction of Paul Istel. The text was printed by Féquet et Baudier, while the etchings were printed from the original plates by Brunel.
